Myanmar Junta Boss Touts Global Ambition for Military Dubbed ‘Fascist Army’ at Home
Myanmar’s military ruler, Min Aung Hlaing, used an Independence Day ceremony to promote his vision of transforming the Tatmadaw into a modern military force that can compete globally. Critics, however, continue to describe the army as a “fascist army” because of its attacks on civilians and villages.
During the ceremony, Min Aung Hlaing presented medals and honorary titles to loyal soldiers. He also claimed the military is becoming a disciplined and patriotic institution capable of resisting international “bullying and exploitation.”
